What Are Dental Fillings?
Dental fillings restore comfort and protect teeth with precise, modern treatment that addresses function and appearance. At Advanced Dental Care of Norton, our skilled dental team uses dental fillings to repair areas of decay and return teeth to a healthy, natural form. We evaluate each tooth with close attention to detail and recommend the right solution based on structure and location. Options include tooth-colored fillings, composite fillings, and traditional amalgam materials, each selected to suit your needs. Many patients prefer natural-looking fillings that blend with surrounding enamel while maintaining durability. These cavity fillings help preserve as much of the original tooth as possible while improving overall oral function. Schedule a consultation at our Norton, MA facility to learn which type of filling fits your needs.
What Should I Expect from Dental Fillings?
The process for dental fillings is designed to be smooth and efficient. The affected area is gently numbed to keep you comfortable. Our dental professionals will then remove the decayed portion of the tooth and prepare the space for the filling placement. For composite resin fillings, a tooth-colored material is applied in layers and carefully hardened to bond with the tooth. This creates a secure seal and a natural finish. Amalgam fillings use a blend of metals that form a durable surface, often chosen for back teeth where chewing forces are greater. The difference between tooth-colored fillings and amalgam fillings often comes down to appearance and placement. Tooth-colored fillings blend with enamel and require less removal of natural structure, while amalgam offers long-standing durability in high-pressure areas. Both types of cavity fillings help stop decay from spreading and restore normal use of the tooth.

Dental Fillings Reviews
I have had numerous levels of dental care here. These include cleanings, fillings, crown, and implant. All the dental professionals are top tier and offer the highest level of care. The office is beautiful, and the staff are always happy and kind.Kathleen Loftus
Wonderful experience today. Had four fillings and a temporary crown placed and the staff at Advanced Dental Care in my opinion are the best in the business, bar none. They are professional and really care about my health and happiness. I greatly recommend Advanced Dental Care if Norton!
Best dentist I've ever been too. Very communicative, apologetic when they saw things would hurt (I totally understood, I was way overdue for a cleaning). They went over things my previous dentist didn't (that they totally should have) and actually showed me pictures of what they were explaining. One of my old fillings needed to be redone and they had an opening right after they offered so I could get it done. When they numbed me, my previous experience is there's still a teeny tiny bit of feeling. None what so ever here. If it wasn't for the sounds, I would think nothing was happening. Everyone there was super super nice
I have been a patient of Dr. Gracia's for 20 years and have been extremely happy with his level of care. At his practice, I have had scaling and grafting done by his affiliated periodontist and I have had practically all my oral exams and fillings done by Dr. Gracia personally. He was professional and courteous and he provided excellent care in every case. On those times he was not available during my visit, the other dentists at the office handled my case just fine in all but one instance (in which a new DMD simply recommended an unnecessary treatment). Dr. Gracia's hygienists have been excellent. For my fillings, bonding, checkups, and other care for 20 years, Dr. Alvaro Gracia has been excellent, and he continues to be my dental healthcare provider of choice.
Yes! Dr. Gracia and Samer were great!I am a total disaster as patient and they did an awesome job with an extraction and two fillings, all with me being awake.Even cleanings are painful, but Dee listened to me, addressed my concerns, and I made it through with minimal discomfort. (I am the original Sensodyne kid, okay?)The rest of the staff are really accommodating, knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. What more can you ask, eh?Yes, I will be back to address some prior existing implant issues, for sure, and probably another cleaning.-Deb. 4/9/2026

Dental Fillings FAQ
How long do dental fillings typically last?
The lifespan of a dental filling depends largely on the material used and your daily oral hygiene habits. Composite fillings generally last between five and ten years, while traditional amalgam fillings can last fifteen years or more. Our team in Norton, MA, will monitor your fillings during regular checkups to ensure they remain strong and intact.
Does getting a dental filling hurt?
We prioritize your comfort by gently numbing the tooth and surrounding area before beginning the procedure. Most patients feel only a slight pressure during the decay removal and filling placement. Our staff at Advanced Dental Care of Norton is dedicated to providing a relaxed, pain-free experience from start to finish.
How do I know if an old dental filling needs to be replaced?
Older fillings may need replacement if they chip, crack, pull away from the tooth, or if new decay develops underneath them. You might experience sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures or pain when chewing if a filling has failed. Our trained staff uses advanced diagnostic tools to identify failing fillings before they cause major issues.
